What kind of drug is this?
The drug is designed specifically for dogs of any age and any breed. It comes in three forms:
- pills;
- suspension;
- drops.
The veterinarian determines which form to choose. The purpose depends on the breed of the animal, age, type of parasites and other factors.
Does it help against worms?
It is used for the following purposes:
- prevention of helminthiasis;
- treatment of nematodes and cestodes at any stage of their development;
- prevention of dirofilariasis;
- destruction of fleas, lice, lice;
- preventing the appearance of demodectic and sarcoptoid mites.
Use the medicine according to the instructions in strictly defined doses.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Dironet in tablets and suspensions is used for dogs to combat tapeworms and worms, as well as other types of parasites that affect the gastrointestinal tract.
It is prescribed in the following cases:
- For preventive deworming, which is carried out every few months.
- For the treatment of nematodes and cestoses at any stage of development.
- For the prevention of dirofilariasis (active substances negatively affect microfilariae).
The drug in drops has more indications:
- Prevention and treatment of worms (worms and tapeworms).
- Prevention of dirofilariasis.
- Prevention of infestation and destruction of fleas, lice and lice.
- Prevention and destruction of demodectic and sarcoptoid mites.
After penetration into the gastrointestinal tract or application to the skin (depending on the form), the active substances of the drug are absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed to all organs and systems. Due to the fact that the maximum concentration is reached after 4-9 hours, the drug is effective.
Compound
Dironet is available in two types:
- for internal use;
- for external use.
The composition of the drug includes:
- Pyrantel pamoate (150 mg). It creates a blockade of nerve impulses, thereby disrupting the activity of parasites, which leads to their death.
- Ivermectin (0.06 mg). Destroys the muscle membrane of parasites. When the concentration of the substance reaches its maximum level, the parasite dies from paralysis.
- Praziquantel (50 mg). Affects tapeworms.
The drops do not contain pyrantel pamoate, the remaining substances are identical.
Composition and pharmacological properties.
Dironet® 500 tablets for dogs of medium breeds as active ingredients in 1 tablet contain pyrantel pamoate - 150 mg, praziquantel - 50 mg and ivermectin - 0.06 mg, as well as excipients.
Dironet tablets are intended for dogs. Dironet® 500 has a wide spectrum of nematocidal and cestodocidal action, is active against round and tape helminths parasitizing dogs and cats, including Toxocara canis, T. cati, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum, Trichuris vulpis, Echinococcus granulosus, E. multilocularis, Diphyllobothrium latum, Dipylidium caninum, Multiceps multiceps, Taenia spp., as well as larval developmental phases (microfilaria) of Dirofilaria immitis and Dirofilaria repens.
The mechanism of action of ivermectin is by binding to glutamate-dependent chloride channels located primarily in the swallowing and somatic muscles. As a result, the permeability of the membrane for chlorine ions increases, the transmission of neuromuscular impulses is blocked, paralysis and death of the parasite occurs.
The mechanism of action of pyrantel pamoate is to block neuromuscular transmission, disrupt the permeability of cell membranes and inhibit cholinesterase, which also leads to paralysis and death of the parasite.
The mechanism of action of praziquantel is based on disruption of glucose transport and microtubular function in cestodes, inhibition of fumarate reductase activity and ATP synthesis, increased permeability of cell membranes and disruption of muscle innervation.
Pills
The tablets are convenient to give to large breed dogs. The suspension is not very suitable in this case, since several syringes are required. The disadvantages are that capricious dogs may refuse to swallow it, then you will have to resort to some tricks.
Dosage
For the treatment of nematodes and cestodes, the dog is given 1 tablet per 10 kilograms of the animal’s weight. If the pet is over 60 kilograms, then a consultation is required before treatment.
Methods of application
Give the tablet strictly in the morning feeding. There is no need to adhere to special diets before deworming; laxatives should not be given to the animal either.
As a preventative measure, give tablets once every few months.
How to give the tablet:
- Crush the tablet and add it to the animal's food. Be sure to make sure your dog eats everything. Some animals smell the medicine and do not finish the food.
- Use an introducer .
For therapeutic purposes, the drug is taken once a month.
Instructions for use
The use of the drug directly depends on the form of release.
Pills
One of the advantages of the medicine is that it does not require gastric lavage or an enema before taking it. If the tablet form of the medicine is chosen, Dironet should be given once in the morning. There are two possible options for using tablets:
- Crush the tablets and mix them with a small amount of food. Make sure your dog eats all of the mixture.
- Use an introducer (a special device for taking medications) or simply place the tablet on the back of the tongue and make sure the animal swallows it.
Animal introducer
The dose should be calculated as follows: for every 10 kg of animal weight, 1 tablet is needed. Before treating large pets whose weight exceeds 60 kg, you should consult a doctor. Preventive deworming is carried out every three months.
Suspension
If a suspension is chosen, 1 ml of medication per 1 kg of dog will be required. The animal should take the drug once or as prescribed by a doctor. Typically used for small breed dogs or those animals that refuse to take pills. You should do the following:
- Measure the required amount of suspension depending on the weight of your pet and squeeze it onto the root of the tongue. For animals that are strongly resistant to this procedure, the medicine can be mixed with the food.
- The procedure must be carried out in the morning, but flushing the gastrointestinal tract is not required.
- For small dogs weighing less than 0.5 kg, the liquid is diluted in cold, pre-boiled water and administered using a syringe without a needle.
For preventive purposes, the product should be used every three months.
Drops
According to the instructions, Dironet spot-on for dogs is intended for outdoor use. Apply the medicine dropwise to places inaccessible to the animal (so that the dog does not lick it off). The area between the shoulder blades, the area at the base of the skull and the spine are excellent. You need to drip in several places directly on the skin, the fur needs to be parted. The skin must be clean and undamaged. After the procedure, avoid swimming for 3-4 days, as water can reduce the effectiveness of the active substances.
When using drops for puppies (only from 2 months of age), you should adhere to the following doses:
- weight up to 2 kg – 0.2 ml (5 drops);
- weight 2-5 kg – 0.5 ml;
- weight more than 5 kg – 1 ml.
For adult dogs, the dosage should be as follows:
- weight 2-5 kg – 1 ml;
- weight 5-10 kg – 2 ml;
- weight 10-20 kg – 4 ml;
- weight 20-30 kg – 6 ml.
For animals weighing more than 30 kg, you need to calculate the dose individually - 0.2 ml of medicine per 1 kg of weight.
When using medicine to get rid of ear mites, you need to drip it into the ear canal.
To prevent the appearance of fleas and other ectoparasites, treatment is carried out once a month during the period of their activity. It is also necessary to change the litter and treat household items from parasites. For deworming, the drug is applied once a quarter.
Drops on the withers "Spot-On"
The advantage of the drug is that it fights not only internal parasites, but also those that live on the dog (fleas, lice, lice). The danger of drops is that the animal can lick them from the application site.
How to use:
- Choose a place for application: spine, neck, shoulder blades.
- Spread the fur and drip onto the skin in several places.
- There should be no scratches or ulcers on the skin.
- It is forbidden to bathe the dog for several days after the procedure.
Drops can only be used from two months of age. Dosage of the drug for puppies:
- up to 2 kg – 5 drops;
- 2-5 kg – 0.5 ml;
- from 5 kg – 1 ml.
Dosage of the drug for adult dogs:
- 2-5 kg – 1 ml;
- 5-10 kg – 2 ml;
- 10-20 kg – 4 ml;
- 20-30 kg – 6 ml.
If the animal is more than 30 kg, then the dose is calculated as follows: per 1 kg of body weight - 0.2 ml of the drug.
Mode of application
Dironet is prescribed for preventive purposes and for treating dogs against worms, as well as before routine vaccination and mating.
The drug is administered in the morning feeding and does not require a fasting diet before or after administration.
Dosages and methods of administration depending on the form of release and the weight of the animal:
Pills. Administered orally in the ratio of 1 tablet per 10 kg of animal body weight: with a small amount of food directly on the root of the tongue or dissolved in 20 ml of water using a syringe.
Suspension. It is administered under the tongue or directly on the root of the tongue using a dispensing pipette, based on the calculation of 1 ml per 1 kg of weight. For puppies weighing less than 5 kg, you need to measure out 1-2 ml of suspension and add 3 ml of cold, boiled water to it and bring the mass to a homogeneous state.
Drops. Apply to 3-4 places on the skin of the back in the area from the shoulder blades to the sacrum in a dosage of 0.2 ml per 1 kg of body weight, that is, before and after applying the drug it is not recommended to take water procedures for 4 days.
Dironet and Dironet Spot-On are used for medicinal purposes once . In advanced cases, re-use is possible after 14 days. To prevent re-infection, the product is used once a quarter. In areas with unfavorable conditions regarding dirofilariasis during the period of activity of mosquitoes and mosquitoes, from April to November the drug is used once a month.
How to give the suspension?
The suspension is sold in bottles. The included measuring syringe is very convenient for dosing. It is very convenient to calculate the volume of the medicine, 1 ml of the product per 1 kg of animal weight.
Advantages of the suspension:
- Great for small breed dogs;
- It is convenient to administer to animals that have difficulty swallowing tablets.
There are no disadvantages; each owner chooses for himself the form of the drug that is convenient for him. The action and effectiveness of the suspension are similar to tablets.
"Junior" for puppies
Puppies can only use Dironet Junior. This drug is designed specifically for them. The active substances in the composition are the same as in Dironet, only in smaller quantities.
Dironet Junior is used for the treatment and prevention of nematodes in puppies and kittens from three weeks of age. The drug preserves the animal's immunity. It not only destroys helminths, but also restores damaged cells.
Dironet Junior is prescribed once in the morning feeding. It is produced in the form of a suspension, so it is very convenient to give it from a special dispenser syringe. 1 ml of suspension is measured per 1 kg of animal weight.
If the dog weighs less than 500 grams, then the measured dose is mixed with 30 ml of water and poured into the animal’s mouth. For preventive purposes, give the medicine once every few months. Take the drug seven days before vaccination.
Composition and release form
Intended to combat helminths and other parasites, the drug is available in several forms:
- in tablets;
- in suspension;
- in drops.
Tablets and suspension are intended for internal use, and drops are used for external treatment. They differ in composition and are used not only for deworming, but also for the destruction and prevention of ectoparasites. They have a wider spectrum of action. Oral preparations have a meaty aroma, so animals consume them with pleasure.
The tablets are packaged in blisters of 6 pieces. The suspension is sold in polymer bottles with a volume of 10 ml. The drug comes with not only instructions, but also a syringe, which makes it easy to measure the required amount of product. The drops are packaged in polymer pipettes of various sizes. They have a simple and convenient form for use.
Dironet, intended for internal use, contains the following active substances:
- Pyrantel pamoate – blocks the transmission of nerve impulses, leading to disruption of the nervous system of parasites. In addition, it contributes to the destruction of the cell membrane, which causes the death of adult individuals.
- Ivermectin - affects the nervous system and muscle membrane of parasites. When maximum concentration in the body is reached, it causes paralysis and death.
- Praziquantel - affects cestodes, disrupting metabolic processes in their body. Due to increased permeability of the cell membrane, as well as disruption of muscle function, the death of parasites occurs.
The drops for external use do not contain pyrantel pamoate, otherwise the active substances are identical.
Large and small breeds
For dogs of large and small breeds, Dironet is available in different dosages. For collie, sheltie and bobtail dogs, use Dironet only under the supervision of a doctor .
What do "200" and "1000" mean?
In the pharmacy you can find packages of medicine with the numbers 200 and 1000 on them. This is the dosage of the drug for large and small breeds.
Dironet 200 is intended for puppies and small breed dogs. The dosage of the drug is 1 tablet per 4 kilograms of dog’s body weight.
Dironet 1000 is suitable for large breeds. It is calculated based on 1 tablet per 30 kilograms.
Usage
In what cases should the drug be used?
Usually, it is prescribed by a doctor after tests. They consist of searching for eggs and worms in the dog's stool. Drops are used when parasites are found on the skin of an animal. If you decide to deworm your pet using Dironet, then this will need to be done once every 3 months on an ongoing basis. Additionally, this procedure must be carried out during the vaccination period and before mating. You may be required to do this if you plan to take a long trip by public transport, or before participating in competitions and performances. The suspension is recommended not only for puppies, but also for small breed dogs, as well as very gentle ones and those with a large number of allergies. By changing the form of the medicine, its essence is not lost.
Instructions for use
Pills
It is not necessary to cleanse the dog’s intestines or empty the stomach in any way before using the drug. Give the tablet in the morning with your first meal. It can be mixed into your pet's food or placed on the root of the tongue, and then hold the mouth closed so that he cannot spit out the medicine. If he doesn't swallow, blow on his nose. He will have the need to lick it, and with something in his mouth it will be inconvenient to do so.
The required amount is calculated from the proportion of 1 tablet per 10 kg of weight. If your dog weighs more than 60 kg, then the dosage must be determined by a veterinarian.
Suspension
The suspension is squeezed onto the root of the tongue through the side of the jaw using a special dispenser, which is included in the kit. If the dog breaks out, you can mix the product with its food, but make sure that it finishes everything, preferably at one time. The amount of the drug is taken at the rate of 1 ml per 1 kg of weight.
IMPORTANT
If your dog weighs less than 0.5 kg, dilute the product with pre-boiled water and give it a little at a time through a syringe.
Drops on the withers
The pipettes in which the drops are released have different volumes. The one you need is determined based on weight:
- Less than 2 kg – 0.2 ml;
- 2 - 5 kg - 0.5 ml;
- 5 – 7 kg – 1 ml;
- 7 - 10 kg - 2 ml;
- 10 - 20 kg - 4 ml;
- 20 - 30 kg - 6 ml.
For weights greater than 30 kg, use multiple pipettes according to the above calculations. Apply the product to dry, clean skin in places where your pet cannot reach. The withers and back are best suited for this. After treatment, do not wash your dog for a couple of days, this is the time the drug is active. If this is a preventive application, then it is done once, and if it is a therapeutic application, then 2 times a week.
Contraindications
There are a number of reasons why you should not give the drug to a certain number of dogs:
- Puppies under 3 weeks of age;
- With weak or painful bowels;
- After illness or surgery;
- Pregnant women and during lactation;
- Suffering from cancer.
For collies, shelties and bobtails, the drug is prescribed only under the supervision of a veterinarian or replaced with some analogues. They do not tolerate some components of the drug well. They can cause a severe allergic reaction.
Follow the instructions carefully. If the dosage is calculated incorrectly, poisoning may occur and a depressed state may occur. If this happens, consult a doctor.
Reviews
Owners
“I have a shepherd dog, she is already 8 years old. One day after a walk, I noticed her lethargic state; the next day she refused to walk at all. The veterinarian advised me to buy Dironet 1000, as she suggested that the reason for this behavior may lie in worms.
I gave medicine in the morning feeding. The dog ate it without any problems. The tablet has a meaty smell. By evening my pet returned to normal. Now I try to carry out prevention every quarter.”
“I have three dogs at home. All different breeds and ages. I always carry out deworming, but usually I used another remedy. My friends drew my attention to Dironet. The product is cheaper, but the effect is the same. I liked it, now we only use it.”
Veterinarians
“I used to prescribe Drontal or Cestal for parasites. Then she turned her attention to Dironet. It is very convenient that it comes in different forms. It can be used from three weeks of age. There are no side effects. It is important to measure the exact dose to prevent poisoning.”
“Dironet is excellent for preventing dirofilariasis. For puppies, I usually prescribe a more gentle remedy; I think that Dironet is not suitable for such babies, although it is allowed.”
What to replace it with?
The drug Dironet has several analogues:
- Prazicide. The method of application and action are similar to the drug Dironet. The cost is slightly lower and is available in tablets and suspensions.
- Milbemax. The drug is suitable for small breed dogs.
- Dehinel Plus. Available only in tablet form. The drug has a pronounced taste of meat, dogs absorb it with pleasure without special tricks.

Before choosing analogues of the prescribed drug, make sure that the composition does not contain substances to which the dog may have an allergic reaction.
Cost and analogues
One of the analogues of Dironet is Milbemax.
The price of a pack of tablets (6 pieces) varies from 250 to 300 rubles. A bottle of suspension costs 200-250 rubles.
The drug Dironet can be replaced with the following drugs (but only if the pet suffers from roundworms or tapeworms):
- Milbemax. An effective but expensive drug in tablet form. Convenient for deworming small dogs and puppies. The active ingredients are milbemycin oxime and praziquantel.
- Prazicide. The basis of the composition is pyrantel pamoate and praziquantel. The drug is available in suspension and tablets. Effective against tape and round helminths.
