Description of the drug

Ditrim is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, its purpose is to treat domestic animals for diseases caused by various bacteria:

  • Proteas.
  • Escherichia coli.
  • Klebsiella.
  • Toxoplasma.
  • Brucella.
  • Salmonella.
  • Eimeria.
  • Pasteurella et al.

Ditrim is produced in the form of a liquid solution, its color is light yellow. Glass bottles of 20, 50, 100 ml for oral administration are available. They also come with detailed instructions for use. For injections there are ampoules of 5 ml. It also exists in powder form and is more often used to treat young animals.

By its action, the medicine suppresses the metabolism of acids necessary for the life and reproduction of dangerous microorganisms. Ditrim for rabbits is a product that quickly penetrates into the blood and diseased tissues.

The drug contains two active substances:

  • trimethoprim - 40 mg in 1 ml;
  • sulfadimezin - 200 mg in 1 ml.

The remaining substances that make up Ditrim: pyrrolidone, benzyl alcohol, sodium salt are auxiliary. Ditrim for rabbits is prescribed for both adults and children.

When used intramuscularly, the drug is maximally concentrated in the blood after 2-3 hours; the effect of the antibiotic lasts about a day. Subsequently, the chemical elements leave the body along with urine.

After taking Ditrim, you must wait 28 days before slaughtering rabbits. If these deadlines are violated, the meat is no longer suitable for food; it can only be used for preparing meat and bone meal or as feed for other animals.

Indications for use and dosage

The drug treats a whole range of animal diseases caused by pathogenic microbes. This is an excellent bacteriostatic agent that is prescribed by veterinarians for infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system and respiratory system of farm animals.

Its effect can only be provided that it affects pathogens that are sensitive to active ingredients. Ditrim has an enhanced effect due to the interaction of folic and n-aminobenzoic acids in the cell of the pathogen microbe.

Advice. It is possible to use Ditrim in long courses and in frequent doses, as a result the resistance of infectious agents does not develop, but for this reason you should not exceed the dose of the medicine or increase the timing of its administration.

Ditrim is used intramuscularly, based on the amount of 1 ml for every 10 kg of animal weight. During the period of exacerbation of the disease, usually the first 2-3 days, the solution is administered in high concentration.

In severe cases, this treatment is continued until the symptoms disappear, but not longer than 7 days. You cannot inject more than two times in a row in the same place. If the disease progresses to a mild or moderate degree, the drug is prescribed orally.

Properties and pharmacodynamics

The drug Ditrim, in addition to its broad antibacterial effect, has a pronounced synergistic effect. Does not cause resistance of pathogenic microflora, the simplest ones. The active components consistently enhance the effect of each other, providing a prolonged effect after oral administration of the veterinary drug.

Ditrim is effective against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and microorganisms. It has a negative effect on E. coli, pasteurella, klebsiella, streptococcus, staphylococcus, and brucellosis pathogens.

The mechanism of action of the active ingredients is based on the effect on the metabolism of n-aminobenzoic and folic acid in microbial cellular structures, thereby providing a wide spectrum of antibacterial action.

When administered intramuscularly, the drug is resorbed and distributed evenly in tissues and organs. The maximum concentration of the drug in the bloodstream is achieved 2–3 hours after administration. The antibacterial effect lasts for 22–24 hours.

It is excreted from the body of animals mainly in the form of metabolites with urine, bile, and less often with feces. In lactating (nursing) females - with colostrum and milk.
