Release form and composition
The chemical composition of the drug Prazitel was developed by scientists from SKiFF LLC. The issue is handled by another Moscow company. The active ingredients of the anthelmintic drug are praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate. Their concentrations and ratios depend on the form of the drug and the purpose by age. The medicine is effective against mature worms and larvae. The drug is marketed in two forms: suspension (Prazitel suspension) and tablets (Prazitel tabulettae). Both are intended for oral use.
Prazitel suspension
The liquid form is made in the form of a thick solution of a light cream or yellowish tint. Bottles with Prasitel suspension for cats have different volumes: 5, 10 and 15 ml. The bottles are made of dark glass or plastic. 1 ml of medicine contains 3 mg of praziquantel and 30 mg of pyrantel. The suspension may separate over time; this is considered normal. To restore homogeneity, shake the container before use.
Along with the usual suspension, the manufacturer produces Prazitel Special. This variety is intended for older pets, that is, for those over 6 years old. The composition includes R-praziquantel, which has a gentler effect on the cat’s body. In addition, additional components of the suspension include inulin and silybin. The first improves the activity of intestinal microflora, the second restores liver cells.
Prazitel suspension is stored away from sunlight at room temperature (from 0 to 25 degrees).
Prazitel tablets
Externally, you can distinguish the tablet form from its analogues by its greenish-yellow color. Each Prasitel tablet weighs 0.32 grams and is marked with the “PR” logo. The packaging of the drug includes an even number of capsules: 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 pieces. It is allowed to pack tablets in metallized blisters or laminated paper. The authentic drug is placed in cardboard boxes.
The amount of praziquantel in one tablet is 20 mg, pyrantel pamoate - 200 mg. To improve the organoleptic and physicochemical properties, in addition to the active components, Prazitel tablets include excipients: potato starch (10 g), lactose (80 g), gelatin (0.9 g), croscarmellose sodium (6 g), calcium stearate ( 3.1 g). Prazitel tabulettae, intended for kittens, has a lower concentration of active ingredients. The amount of praziquantel in such a tablet is reduced to 5 g, and pyrantel - to 50 g.
Composition and forms of the drug
Prazitel is available in two forms:
- tablet;
- suspension.
Both forms are intended for oral use. The liquid form of the medicine is most often used. 1 ml of solution contains pyrantel pamoate (30 mg) and praziquantel (3 mg). They are the main active ingredients.
The suspension has a light yellow color. Some variation of its shades is allowed. The solution is available packaged in bottles. The container is made of dark glass, polypropylene or polyethylene. It is equipped with a lid to control the first opening. A dispenser syringe is sold complete with the suspension.
There is a special solution that is sold with o. This drug is intended for the treatment of aging animals. Its distinctive feature is the reduced concentration of the main active components of the solution. This decrease is compensated by the additional addition of milk thistle extract to the composition.
The active substances of the drug, after entering the animal’s body, cause depolarization of muscle cells in worms. As a result, the parasites experience a disruption in energy metabolism, which leads to the rapid death of the worms. After death, worms are eliminated from the pet's body naturally.
The product is characterized by high efficiency. In 95% of cases, a one-time administration is sufficient to destroy helminths.
Prazitel suspension
The liquid is yellow with a creamy tint and contains 0.3% praziquantel and 3% pyrantel. Auxiliary components: emulsifier, citric acid, benzyl benzoate, carboxymethylcellulose, sweetener. Packaged in glass or polymer bottles of 15; 20 ml. The 15 ml packages say that this is a drug for cats and kittens. The 20 cc packages state that this is a medicine for small dogs and puppies. The composition of the drugs is no different and can be used for both.

Prazitel suspension is prescribed for dogs from 14 days of age, cats - from three weeks of age. The suspension is administered with food or forcefully into the mouth using a syringe with the needle removed. Dose 1 cm3/kg body weight. The dose can be divided into several servings.
For preventive purposes, deworming is carried out quarterly, as well as before each vaccination. If a large number of whole parasites or fragments are noticed in the pet’s feces, the treatment is repeated after 10 days.
Females should not be dewormed in the first month after mating, as well as nursing mothers during the initial 3 weeks of lactation.
Indications
The drug Prazitel suspension is prescribed to cats and kittens for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes for nematodes (toxocariasis, toxascariasis, uncinariasis, trichuriasis, hookworm) and cestodes (tenidosis, dipylidiasis, echnococcosis, diphyllobothriasis, mesocestoidosis), trematodes (opisthorchiasis) and mixed nematodes hundred-dose infestations.
DOSAGE AND METHOD OF APPLICATION
Prazitel suspension is administered orally to cats and kittens in the following doses: 1 ml of suspension per 1 kg of animal weight.
For preventive purposes, it is used for cats - once every 3 months, for kittens from 3 weeks of age. The drug is prescribed to pregnant cats in the second half of pregnancy and to lactating cats 3 weeks after birth with caution under the supervision of a veterinarian. Be sure to prescribe the drug to animals before vaccination.
Prazitel suspension is given to animals individually, once directly on the root of the tongue in the cheek area from a dispenser syringe or with food. It is possible to administer a dose of the drug in portions. No preliminary fasting diet or use of laxatives is required. With a high degree of infestation, deworming is repeated after 10 days. Before use, the bottle with the suspension should be shaken vigorously for 1-2 minutes until a homogeneous mass is obtained. For ease of shaking the suspension, the bottle is filled to no more than 2/3 of the total volume.
How does it work on parasites?
Prazitel is characterized by a fairly wide spectrum of action. Praziquantel and pyrantel are poisons not only for roundworms, but also for tapeworms. The use of suspension and tablets is advisable for:
- toxocariasis;
- toxascariasis;
- uncinarium;
- hookworm;
- ascariasis;
- trichocephalosis;
- taeniidoze;
- dipylidia;
- echinococcosis;
- diphyllobothriasis;
- mesocestoidosis.
Praziquantel (up to 75%) and partially pyrantel (up to 50%) are absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract of the cat. Already 3 hours after administration, the maximum of these compounds is reached in the animal’s blood. Praziquantel is excreted from the body in metabolized form in the urine. Pyrantel is excreted in the feces. The body is freed from poisons after 48 hours. During this time, the active molecules of the drug manage to cause the death of worms.
The active compounds of Prazitel penetrate the bodies of helminths and inactivate fumarate reductase, an enzyme involved in the transmission of nerve impulses to muscle fibers. As a result, the parasite experiences static paralysis. Immobilized worms and the decay products of their bodies are excreted from the gastrointestinal tract with feces.
Universal remedy - "Prasitel"
Reviews and recommendations from experts indicate that this remedy is equally effective for both prevention and treatment of animals already infected with helminths. The medicine quickly copes with all types of tapeworms and roundworms. Once in the cat’s blood, within four hours “Prasitel” begins to massively destroy parasites, causing paralysis in them. The remains of helminths and the drug are completely eliminated from the body within one to two days.
"Prazitel", the price of which is in the range of 55-120 rubles, is available in two forms: suspension and tablets. The drug is prescribed to cats, female cats and kittens of three weeks of age for preventive and therapeutic purposes. The medicine is used for diseases such as nematodosis, cestodosis and mixed helminthiases. In tablet form, Prazitel is used only for adults - the dose is calculated as follows: 1 tablet per 4 kilograms of the cat’s body weight. Liquid suspension is largely used for kittens. The dosage is also calculated based on the weight component of the animal - 1 ml of liquid per 1 kg of body weight.
Instructions for use of Prazitel
Anthelmintic treatment is repeated every three months and 10-12 days before scheduled vaccination. To achieve the desired result, Prazitel for deworming is fed to the cat in the morning on an empty stomach (optimally an hour before meals). According to the instructions, a special diet in the form of a hunger strike and laxatives are not necessary.
The tablets can be given in several ways. In the first option, it is placed entirely in a piece of sausage or meat. Often, owners grind the tablet into powder and mix it with minced fish or meat. How to give a pill to a cat
The tablet can be given to an animal in several ways:
- chop and mix with water, minced meat or food;
- using a tablet dispenser (this is a device that works on the principle of a syringe);
- forced (force the cat to swallow the medicine).
From my own experience, I can say that mixing medicine with food does not always help. For example, one of my cats can sense if food smells like something foreign. I use the tablet dispenser only when treating kittens (the older cat runs away from unfamiliar objects). For her, the ideal option is forced enforcement. Of course, you cannot coax, scream or hit a cat. You need to put the tablet on the root of the tongue so that the cat has to swallow it reflexively. Sticking the pill in with your finger is also not an option. You need to hold the cat, tilt its head back, unclench its jaws with one hand, and lower the tablet with the other (if the cat’s head is positioned correctly, it will fall into the right place).

The suspension is also used once. A single dose can be given to the cat with food or forcefully. To do this, you need to use a dosing syringe (1 ml per 1 kg of body weight). If an anthelmintic is used for prophylactic purposes, then this should be done once every 3 months.
Can it be used in pregnant cats and kittens?
Kittens can be dewormed no earlier than three weeks of age. Prevention of worms should be carried out no more than once a quarter.
Prazitel can also be used in pregnant cats, but only in the second half of pregnancy. Lactating cats are dewormed 20 days after birth. In this case, you need to be extremely careful (it is recommended to use the medicine under the supervision of a veterinarian).
Contraindications
Considering that part of the potent drug is absorbed into the blood and distributed throughout the pet’s body, its use has limitations. Contraindications include pregnancy in the first 4-5 weeks. In the second half of gestation, feeding Prazitel is allowed.
For lactating females, the drug against parasites is prohibited for three weeks after birth. After this time, the anthelmintic can be given to a lactating cat after consultation with a veterinarian. Contraindications and side effects
The use of Prazitel in the form of a suspension for cats, as well as tablets, has virtually no contraindications. The only restrictions are:
- the age of a small kitten is up to 3 weeks;
- pregnancy, as well as lactation status.
Like other anthelmintic drugs, Prazitel should not be given to weakened animals or cats that are sick.
It is strictly forbidden to use Prazitel and other anthelmintics at the same time for worms; this can cause an overdose, especially if the composition contains the same active ingredients.
Side effects are observed extremely rarely, with individual intolerance. They manifest themselves in the form of depression in the cat or kitten, lethargy, and drooling. Therefore, the instructions for use recommend monitoring your pet’s behavior during first use.
Pharmacological properties
“Prasitel” operates according to the following principle: the active components cause disruption of neuromuscular transmission in helminths, thereby causing their paralysis and further death. The cell membranes of parasites become more susceptible to silver ions, which causes strong contractions of the muscle walls, which leads to spastic (persistent) paralysis. The mechanism of action of the active ingredients included in the drug is based on inhibition of fumarate reductase, persistent depolarization of helminth muscle cells, disruption of energy metabolism, which causes paralysis and death of the parasite and promotes its removal from the gastrointestinal tract.
When administered orally, praziquantel is rapidly absorbed in the intestine and distributed in organs and tissues, excreted from the body mainly in the urine in a metabolized form, pyrantel pamoate is partially absorbed in the intestine and is excreted from the body mainly in feces within 24-48 hours.
In terms of the degree of impact on the body, Prazitel tablets are classified as moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76); in recommended doses it does not have immunotoxic, sensitizing, embryotoxic or teratogenic effects.
