Composition and release form
Milprasone is produced in the form of oval-shaped tablets. The main advantage of the anthelmintic is that the tablets are available in two different variations:
- for kittens and cats weighing up to 2 kg;
- for adult cats and cats weighing more than 2 kg.
They have an identical composition, only the concentration of active components and excipients is different. Externally, they can be distinguished by color - brown-yellow for animals weighing up to 2 kg, brown-red for adult pets weighing more.
Tablets, regardless of the concentration of active substances, are coated and always have a small groove in the middle, which allows the tablet to be divided into exactly two parts. Thanks to this, it is possible to correctly calculate the dose and prevent an overdose, the consequences of which can be unpleasant for the pet. Tablets are packed in 2 or 4 pieces in blisters.
The anthelmintic effect of the drug is due to the combination of two components - praziquantel and milbemycin oxime. The composition also includes auxiliary substances:
- magnesium stearate;
- povidone;
- lactose monohydrate;
- dry yeast;
- colloidal anhydrous silicon, etc.
One of the auxiliary components is meat flavoring, which improves the taste of the medicine. Thanks to this, many animals eat it on their own without coercion.

Pharmacological properties
The antiparasitic effect of the drug is due to its components:
- Milbemycin oxime destroys roundworms, as well as the larvae of Dirofilaria immitus, which cause the development of dirofilariasis. The principle of action of the substance is based on the fact that under its influence the permeability of cell membranes increases, and disturbances occur in the functioning of the nervous system and muscle tissue. As a result, paralysis occurs and the parasites die.
- Praziquantel is effective against tapeworms and roundworms. The principle of its action is in many ways similar to other active substances. Due to disturbances in metabolic processes and muscle contraction, paralysis occurs, due to which the parasites die. Praziquantel helps remove dead worms from the animal's body.
An important advantage of the medication is its rapid action. After entering the intestines, the active substances are quickly absorbed. In just 1-2 hours, the content of active components in the blood plasma is equal to the maximum value.
According to the instructions for use, Milprazone for cats is considered a moderately dangerous medicine. If you do not exceed the dose, it does not have an embryotoxic effect on the body and is not addictive.
Note! Milprazone is toxic to fish and bees, so it must be disposed of in accordance with legal requirements. Do not allow the drug to get into water bodies, ponds, rivers and other sources of water resources.

Pharmacological properties Milprazone tablets for cats belong to the group of combined anthelmintic drugs with nematodocidal and cestodocidal action. The active components included in the drug provide its wide spectrum of anthelmintic action.
Milbemycin oxime is a macrocyclic lactone obtained as a result of the enzymatic activity of Streptomyces hygroscopicus var. Aureolacrimosus, is active against larvae and adults of nematodes parasitizing the gastrointestinal tract of cats, as well as larvae of the nematode Dirofilaria immitis. The mechanism of action of milbemycin is due to an increase in the permeability of cell membranes to chlorine ions (CH), which leads to overpolarization of the membranes of nerve and muscle tissue cells, paralysis and death of the parasite. After oral administration of the drug, the maximum concentration of milbemycin oxime in the blood plasma of cats is reached after 2 hours; the compound is excreted from the body mainly unchanged, the half-life is about 13 hours.
Praziquantel is an acylated derivative of pyrazinisoquinoline and has a pronounced effect against cestodes and nematodes. By increasing the permeability of the parasite's cell membranes to calcium ions (Ca2+), it causes depolarization of the membranes, muscle contraction and destruction of the tegument, which leads to the death of the parasite and promotes its elimination from the animal's body. After oral administration of the drug, the maximum concentration of praziquantel in the blood plasma of cats is reached after 1 hour; the compound is excreted from the body mainly in the form of inactive metabolites in the urine, the half-life is about 3 hours.
According to the degree of impact on the body, Milprazone tablets for cats are classified as moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses they do not have sensitizing, embryotoxic or teratogenic effects, and are well tolerated by cats of different breeds and ages. The drug is toxic to bees, as well as fish and other aquatic organisms.
Order of use Milprazone tablets for cats are prescribed for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes for nematodes, cestodes and associated nematodocestodes infestations caused by both larval forms and mature cestodes and nematodes of the following types:
cestodes - Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus multilocularis; nematodes - Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Toxocara cati, Dirofilaria immitis (disease prevention).
A contraindication to the use of Milprazone is the individual hypersensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug (including a history), severe renal and liver dysfunction. The drug should not be used in kittens younger than 6 weeks of age and weighing less than 0.5 kg. Animals that are exhausted or sick with infectious diseases are not subject to deworming. If necessary, deworming of pregnant and lactating cats is carried out under the supervision of a veterinarian.
The drug is administered to cats once during feeding with a small amount of food or administered forcibly to the root of the tongue after feeding in a minimum therapeutic dose of 2 mg of milbemycin oxime and 5 mg of praziquantel per 1 kg of animal weight, based on:

When to use
Milprazone is used for cats in the treatment of helminthic infestations:
- dipylidia;
- toxocariasis;
- taeniasis;
- echinococcosis;
- hookworm.
The medication can be used to treat mixed helminthic infestations. The medicine is also excellent for preventing infection with round and tapeworms, as well as dirofilariasis. To protect the animal from internal parasites, which can significantly harm health, it is necessary to give Milprazone for preventive purposes:
- every three months;
- before vaccination;
- before mating.
After taking the medicine for one month, the animal’s body is protected from dirofilariasis. To provide further protection, you should choose another remedy. It is not recommended to use Milprazone more than once every three months, as this may cause an overdose.
Instructions for use
The instructions indicate that Milprazone is given to cats and cats are given once when treating helminthic infestations. The dosage of the antiparasitic agent is calculated taking into account several factors. The content of active ingredients and the weight of the pet must be taken into account. For kittens and cats weighing less than 2 kg, use tablets with a lower concentration of active ingredients in the following quantities:
- if the pet's weight is 0.5-1 kg, half a tablet will be required;
- For animals weighing from 1 to 2 kg, one tablet is needed.
When using a more concentrated drug, you should adhere to the following doses:
- from 2 to 4 kg – 0.5 pcs.;
- from 4 to 8 kg – 1 piece;
- from 8 to 12 kg – 1.5 pcs.
Medicine can be given forcibly. In the first case, the tablet must be placed on the root of the tongue and wait until the animal swallows it. To speed up this process, you need to lift the cat's muzzle and stroke its neck, provoking swallowing movements. You can also mix the drug with food. In this case, choose treats that the cat likes to successfully disguise it. You need to take a small amount of feed.
When using an anthelmintic, there is no need to take laxative medications or keep your pet on a starvation diet. Some doctors recommend giving the medicine in the morning. It is better to feed the animal not immediately after taking the medicine, but after 30-40 minutes. This way you can achieve maximum efficiency.
Note! When using the drug for preventive purposes, cats are given it in a therapeutic dose, that is, as during treatment.

Contraindications and side effects
Milprozone has a number of contraindications:
- individual intolerance to components, including in history;
- exhaustion;
- infectious diseases;
- chronic or acute liver diseases;
- kidney pathologies.
Also, do not give the product to kittens under 6 weeks of age or if the animal weighs less than 0.5 kg.
Important! Deworming of cats during pregnancy and lactation is possible only under the supervision of a doctor.
Sometimes the following side effects occur:
- lethargy;
- impaired coordination of movements;
- vomit;
- nausea;
- diarrhea;
- muscle tremors, etc.
Side effects occur more often in small kittens. This is due to the fact that it is more difficult for the liver and kidneys of small pets to cope with removing the drug from the body. Such symptoms may also indicate an overdose. They usually disappear on their own within a day. If necessary, the pet is prescribed medications for symptomatic therapy.
If an allergy appears after taking the drug (symptoms can vary from rash to nausea and vomiting), the animal is given an anti-allergy drug. In the future, another anthelmintic is selected for the prevention and treatment of helminthic infestations.
Owner reviews
Eva, owner of 2 cats:
“Since we have two cats living in our house, the problem of deworming is quite pressing for us. In addition, I often foster kittens. Previously, we always bought Milbemax, but when it once again became more expensive, we decided to choose another drug. The veterinarian recommended Milprazone, noting that its composition is identical to the more expensive anthelmintic. We started buying because of the lower price, but we are not complaining about the efficiency. The medicine works great."
Victoria, owner of a Siamese cat:
“After a summer holiday at the dacha, we decided to conduct anthelmintic. We chose Milprazone. And although its price is lower than drugs with the same composition, it is gentle and effective. I added the tablets to my cat’s food. I ate it without any problems. There were no side effects."
Tatyana, owner of a Chinese cat:
“I have been using Milprazone for anthelmintics for a long time. When the cat gave birth, she also bought this drug for kittens, only in a different version. The kids tolerated deworming well, as did their mother. An excellent remedy for fighting parasites.”
