pharmachologic effect

The medicine belongs to insectoacaricidal medicines. It is active for various phases of development of ectoparasites that live on dogs. The action of fipronil lies in its ability to disrupt nerve impulses and block parasite receptors; these factors lead to paralysis and rapid death of insects.

In turn, diflubenzuron disrupts the development of ectoparasites even at the stage of egg appearance, which leads to the cessation of their reproduction and death.

The drug is only partially absorbed into the puppy’s bloodstream; most of it remains in the sebaceous glands and hair follicles, so it does not pose any danger to the pet. According to GOST, Bars Forte belongs to the third hazard class.

Pharmacological (biological) properties and effects

Insectoacaricidal drops Bars® forte belong to the insectoacaricidal agents from the group of phenylpyrosoles.

Fipronil, which is part of the drug, has a pronounced contact insectoacaricidal effect on the larval and mature phases of development of fleas, lice, lice, ixodid and sarcoptic ticks that parasitize dogs and cats.

After cutaneous application of the drug, fipronil, without being absorbed into the systemic bloodstream, accumulates in the epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands of the animal’s body and has a long-term contact insectoacaricidal effect.

The mechanism of action of fipronil is to block GABA-dependent ectoparasite receptors, disrupting the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of insects and ticks.

Bars® forte insectoacaricidal drops, in terms of the degree of impact on the body, are classified as moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses they do not have a skin-irritating, resorptive-toxic or sensitizing effect; Causes irritation upon contact with eyes.

Bars Forte drops for puppies

Description

Drops Bars forte 4 dropper pipettes of 1.4 ml each contain fipronil and an insect growth regulator, as well as auxiliary components as active ingredients.

Indications

Prevention and treatment of sarcoptic mange, cheyletiosis and entomosis (lice, fleas, lice) in puppies. Prevention of ixodid ticks in puppies.

Doses and method of administration

Insecto-acaricidal drops Bars Forte are used to treat the skin and hair of the animal once in the doses indicated in the table:

Puppy weight, kg

Number of pipettes, pcs.
1 – 5 1
5 – 10 2
10 – 20 4

Before use, break off (or cut off) the tip of the pipette and then, spreading the animal’s fur, apply it to the skin at several points that are inaccessible for licking (at the base of the skull, between the shoulder blades, along the back and tail). The duration of the protective effect is: against ticks - 4 weeks, against fleas - 3 months. Washing the animal with shampoo does not reduce the effectiveness of the medicine. The repeated procedure should be carried out no more than once a month.

Pharmacological properties

Insecto-acaricidal drops Bars Forte have a detrimental effect on larvae and mature ticks of the Ixodidae family, Sarcoptes canis and Cheyletiella jascuri ticks and insects Linognathus setosus, Trichodectes canis and Ctenocephalides canis. The high insecticidal and acaricidal activity of the drops is due to the presence of fipronil and an insect growth regulator in their composition. The mechanism of action of fipronil is to block the GABA-dependent receptors of the parasite and disrupt neuromuscular transmission, which leads to its paralysis and death. The insect growth regulator inhibits the processes of chitin formation, disrupts the processes of molting, pupation and fledging of the parasite. In terms of the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, the drug is classified as a moderately dangerous substance and in recommended doses does not have a teratogenic, embryotoxic or locally irritating effect.

Side effects

In most cases they are not observed. In some animals with hypersensitivity, signs of intoxication and allergies are possible (tremor, vomiting, excessive salivation and lacrimation, itching, irritation and redness of the skin). If these signs or other manifestations of intolerance appear, the drug should be immediately washed off with soap and water or shampoo.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug. It is not allowed to be used by puppies under 8 weeks of age, as well as by animals suffering from infectious diseases and convalescent animals.

special instructions

In order to prevent re-infestation, the animal's bedding should be replaced or treated with an insecticidal acaricidal spray in accordance with the instructions for use. Manufacturer

LLC NEC "Agrovetzashchita S.-P.", Russia.

Mechanism of action

The active substance of the spray and insectoacaricidal drops, fipronil, has a destructive effect on the nervous system of parasites, interfering with the transmission of nerve impulses, causing muscle tremors, paralysis, and then death of ticks and insects.

Diflubenzuron, which is non-toxic for warm-blooded animals, inhibits ectoparasites at all phases of development, prevents the formation of a chitinous shell, slows down the development of larvae and their transformation into pupae. It not only regulates the growth and development of parasites, but also leads to the death of eggs, eggs, and interruption of the life cycle. By quickly reducing the reproduction of parasites, diflubenzuron leads to the death of their population on the animal.

Fipronil, which is the main active ingredient, destroys the nervous system of parasites.

When Bars Forte comes into contact with the skin of an animal, it concentrates in the subcutaneous fat layer and hair follicles without penetrating into the circulatory system. The components brought to the surface through the sweat glands and follicles come into contact with parasites, exerting an intestinal-insectoacaricidal effect on them.

Important. Additional components of drops and spray against fleas and ticks can strengthen and extend the protective properties of the drug for up to 4 weeks.

Miconazole nitrate and enrofloxacin contained in Bars Forte ear drops have antibacterial and antifungal properties. The compounds inhibit the growth and development of microorganisms that cause ear diseases (otitis) in dogs.

For puppies weighing from 1 to 5 kg 1.4 ml.

For puppies weighing from 5 to 10 kg - 2.8 ml.

Puppies weighing from 10 to 20 kg - 5.6 ml.

Terms of use

The treatment is carried out once. Drops are applied to places where the animal cannot lick it. The best option is between the shoulder blades, at the withers. In case of severe infection, it is allowed along the spine, but the dog is muzzled for 2 hours.

Sequencing:

  • put on rubber gloves;
  • break off the protective cap on the container with the drug;
  • push back the dog's fur to get to the skin;
  • apply in one place or several;
  • massage with your finger for better absorption.

Before the treatment procedure, the last bath procedure should be 3 days before. The next one is in a week.

The active components of the drops are quickly distributed into the sebaceous glands, but frequent bathing with soap reduces the effectiveness. It is recommended to bathe the dog after using the drops once every 2 weeks. You cannot let your animal outside for 2 hours if it is raining or snowing.

Important!

Instructions for use include re-treating the animal with Bars Forte drops after 1 month. It is forbidden to drip the product before this period to avoid overdose.

Instructions for use of Bars drops

Treatment against external parasites and ticks is carried out a week before seasonal vaccination or twice a year. For therapeutic purposes, treatment is carried out twice with an interval of 10–14 days. During the first treatment, adult individuals are destroyed, and after 10 days, young ones that hatch from the remaining eggs. The duration of action of the drug is up to three months.

Using a plastic pipette, the drug is applied to the animal’s skin and spreads evenly throughout the body. The drug is not absorbed into the skin and does not enter the pet’s blood, but accumulates in the pores.

The instructions for Bars for dogs recommend the following application of the drug:

  • the most inaccessible area for licking is selected on the dog’s withers;
  • the fur and undercoat move apart;
  • Apply Bars onto the skin in droplets in several places.

For the first few hours, you should ensure that the animal does not lick itself. The likelihood of poisoning is especially high when several animals are treated at once in one house. Dogs can lick each other.

For otodectosis, drops are instilled into each ear of the animal in the following steps:

  • the dog's ears are cleaned of wax, dirt and mucus;
  • the required dosage is instilled into each ear;
  • The ears are folded and with massage movements the drug is evenly distributed over the inside of the shell.

After instillation into the ears, it is important to ensure that the dog does not shake its head for 15–20 minutes. To do this, the animal is distracted by a treat or stroking.

How to give drops to an animal without causing intoxication? It is important to follow the dosage, which is calculated depending on the dog’s weight:

  • weight from 2 to 10 kg – 1 pipette (1.4 ml);
  • from 11 to 20 kg – 2 pipettes (2.8 ml);
  • from 21 to 30 kg – 3 pipettes (4.2 ml);
  • from 30 kg – 4–7 pipettes (5–10 ml).

For dogs weighing more than 30 kg and puppies, a more accurate calculation of drops is made from the ratio per 1 kg of animal weight / 0.1 ml of the drug. The exact dosage will prevent intoxication.

For the convenience of breeders, the manufacturer offers pipettes with the drug of various volumes.

How to take Bars for dogs with otodectosis depends on the complexity of the disease. The standard regimen allows the use of 4 to 6 drops in each animal's ear, once a day.

Instructions for use and dosage

The dosage, method, and frequency of use of Bars Forte depend on the type of drug, weight, age, and breed of dog. To avoid mistakes, overdose and achieve the greatest effectiveness of the product, you should first read the instructions for use.

Before using the drug Bars Forte on your dog's skin, you must read the instructions.

Insectoacaricidal drops for puppies and dogs

Insectoacaricidal drops Bars Forte belong to the group of drugs for external use spot-on. They are applied to the withers of the animal. Drops are applied to dry skin, carefully freeing it from hair.

Before applying the drops, the dog is not bathed with shampoo for at least two days. Avoid water procedures in the next two days after applying the drug.

Drops are applied following a simple algorithm:

  1. The pet is examined. The treated skin should be free of scratches, abrasions, ulcers, eczema, scratching and other damage.
  2. The nose of the pipette with the drug is cut off.
  3. Having parted the fur, apply drops to the base of the skull and withers. For dogs of large breeds, additional points are dug between the ears, shoulder blades, along the line of the spine to the lower back, at the base of the tail. The points should be located in places inaccessible to licking.

The drug begins to act on insects and ticks half an hour after treating the animal. Repeated treatment is carried out as prescribed by a veterinarian or in case of high activity of ectoparasites in the place where the animal lives and walks, but not earlier than after 30 days.

The dosage of Bars Forte drops is calculated based on the weight of the dog.

The dosage depends on the weight of the animal:

  • for puppies that have reached 2 months of age, miniature dogs (whose weight has not reached 1 kg), 4 drops (0.5 ml) on the withers are enough;
  • for pets weighing from 1 to 5 kg, use 1 pipette with a volume of 0.1 ml;
  • dogs that have gained weight of 5-10 kg require 1 pipette containing 1.8 ml of product;
  • for 10-20 kg of live weight you will need 2 pipettes of 1.8 ml;
  • for dogs of medium breeds weighing 20-30 kg - 3 pipettes of 1.8 ml;
  • for animals weighing more than 30 kg, for every subsequent 10 kg, add one 1.8 ml pipette.

Important: If an attached tick is detected, one drop of the drug is applied directly to the body of the tick and the dog’s skin at the site of attachment. After treatment, wait 20-30 minutes: if the parasite does not fall off on its own, it is carefully removed with tweezers or a special device and burned.

Ear drops

When prescribing ear drops:

  1. Using a cotton swab dipped in the preparation, carefully clean the auricles and ear canals from dirt, earwax, scabs, and discharge (exudate).
  2. For puppies and dogs of miniature breeds, 3-4 drops of the product are instilled into each ear. Animals with average weight - 4 drops. Large dogs - 4-5 drops. Be sure to treat two ears, even if only one is affected.
  3. The auricle is folded in half, the base of the ear is lightly massaged. The pet's head is held for 2-3 minutes until the product is completely distributed.
  4. The drug remaining in the pipette is applied to the skin at a point located between the shoulder blades.
  5. The procedure is carried out twice a day for 5-7 days. In case of a protracted, severe form of the disease, the course is repeated after a 7-day break.

Bars Forte ear drops are applied to each dog's ear, after which it is gently massaged.

Spray Bars Forte

The spray is prescribed for preventive and therapeutic purposes.

Processing is carried out as follows:

  1. The procedure should be carried out outdoors or indoors with open windows. There should be no sources of open fire nearby.
  2. To prevent licking of the product, the dog is wearing a neck collar, a muzzle, or a retaining loop is placed over the mouth.
  3. The bottle is shaken vigorously, placed vertically at a distance of 20-25 cm from the treated area and, pressing the valve, the product is sprayed in the direction against the hair. Long hair is lifted with a gloved hand.
  4. Treatment begins with the ears and chest, covering the dog’s eyes with the palm of the hand. Then a small amount of spray applied to the fingertips is rubbed into the area around the eyes and nose.
  5. After this, the spray is sequentially applied to the neck, back, paws, and tail.
  6. The dosage is calculated using the formula: 0.5 ml per 1 kg of pet’s weight (one press on the sprayer). For dogs with thick, long hair, the dose is increased to 1.0 ml per kg (two pumps).
  7. When applying the spray to the fur, you must close the dog's eyes with your hand. 20-30 minutes after the skin and fur have dried, remove the muzzle and collar. The wool is combed.
  8. When prescribing a treatment procedure for sarcoptic mange, the animal’s skin is first freed from crusts and scabs. The drug is applied to the area affected by mites and a centimeter-long area of healthy skin around it. The dose is 1 ml spray per 10 cm² of affected skin. The procedures are repeated 2-4 times, taking breaks between treatments of 7-10 days. In case of extensive infection, first treat one half of the animal, take a break for a day, then treat the other half.
  9. Treatment is stopped after confirmation of complete recovery.

When prescribing insectoacaricidal agents Bars Forte for therapeutic purposes, not only the animal, but also the bedding and accessories (collar, harness, blanket, brushes, combs) are treated with the spray. Consumption of the drug is 2 ml (4 clicks on the cap) per 1 m² of surface. Accessories and care tools can be used 24 hours after treatment.

Efficiency, according to reviews

Bars Forte drops are one of the most popular drugs. The advantages of the product are: affordable price, sold in any veterinary pharmacy, rarely causes side effects, protection lasts up to 2 months.

My dogs and I love to walk in the forest. There is freedom for them there, they can frolic and have fun. I have been treating parasites with Bars Forte drops for the fifth year now. It helps a dog against fleas for 3 months as much as possible; ticks had to be removed even a month after treatment. If you use flea drops in urban conditions, you can treat only 2 times during the entire season.

Irina, Moscow

After treatment, the puppy began to tremble all over his body, whined, and refused to eat. I didn't sleep well. The next day everything went away. I haven't seen fleas on it for 2 months. When reprocessing, a similar situation happened.

Olga, St. Petersburg

The dogs live in the yard. In the summer I treat with Bars Forte every month. I didn't notice any side effects. On the first day they only eat reluctantly. Then everything is fine. Good drug, inexpensive. I used to treat it with Bars spray, but the drops are more convenient to use.

The domestically produced drug can be found in any pharmacy. The product is stored for about 2 years from the date of manufacture. The cost of one pipette is about 70 rubles.

Analogs

The Bars line of drugs has many analogues. They are all similar in both their advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantages include toxicity and the likelihood of individual intolerance. Therefore, it is not possible to claim complete harmlessness, no matter how the manufacturers assure it. However, each drug contains different active substances. This means that if Bars is not suitable for you, you can try another antiparasitic drug after consulting with your veterinarian.

"Inspector"

It contains moxidectin and fipronil. They allow the medicine to cope with fleas, lice, lice and all types of mites. “Inspector” differs from “Bars” drops in that it destroys not only external parasites, but also intestinal helminths. However, this increases its toxicity and the risk of adverse reactions.

"Advantix"

Drops are used externally to get rid of all types of ectoparasites. The combined action of permethrin and imidacloprid kills fleas and ticks and also has a repellent effect. Advantix protects animals from mosquitoes, midges and midges. Drops are available in four dosages.

"Celandine"

The product is used externally to destroy blood-sucking parasites. The medicine contains fipronil and permethrin, which act on larvae and adults.

The main disadvantages include high allergenicity.

"Frontline"

It begins to act almost immediately after treatment and retains its protective properties for 30 to 90 days. The drops contain fipronil, which paralyzes the nervous system of insects and causes their death. The drug also has a preventive effect.

"Dana"

The main active substances are fipronil and diazinon. The medicine is applied externally and effectively protects against all types of ectoparasites. Drops can be used for both cats and dogs. Has a 3rd hazard class.

Pharmacological composition of the substance:

  • Fipronil - blocks and disrupts the transmission of impulses in the receptors of ectoparasites, paralyzes them and kills them.
  • Diflubenzuron is an insecticide that affects the synthesis of chitin of parasites, affects the process of egg laying and hatching of larvae, which leads to a cessation of the growth of the parasite population.
  • Dicarboximide - used together with insecticides to increase their activity and toxicity.

The drug is intended for external use. It is applied to the animal's skin. It is worth noting that the active substances of the drug are not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream, but are evenly distributed on the surface of the skin and accumulate in the sebaceous glands, which ensures direct contact with ectoparasites.

IMPORTANT: the drug should be applied pointwise in those places where the dog cannot lick it off (for example, on the withers or neck area under the skull). If you have several dogs, we recommend wearing muzzles to prevent pets from licking the drug from each other.
