This breed was created in China. Pugs were bred by many European monarchs and their entourage. For example, Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland loved keeping these miniature and funny dogs in her palace.
Their name comes from the Latin word "pugnus", which means "fist". The head of a pug looks exactly like a fist.
An adult male can weigh up to 9 kilograms. As a rule, its height is no more than 35 centimeters.
