Preface
Pointers are a large breed group of hunting dogs that were created for the purpose of helping humans during the hunting process. Each individual breed has its own purpose and unique abilities. Cops must be able to find prey (mostly birds), sneak up on it unnoticed, stand in a special stance and pick up birds for the hunter. Of course, for such specific tasks, the dog must have extraordinary qualities that have been reinforced by breeders for more than one generation.
Group Features
Cops are classified in the seventh group according to the ICA classification. This includes only those representatives whose numbers are high enough and who are recognized internationally. However, in fact there are many more cops in the world than are represented in the group.
The main function of this group is to track and bring game. However, everything is not so simple here, since some representatives work exclusively on water, others prefer land, and there are still others who are universal. In addition to hunting, they are able to keep good company with people.
Despite certain gaps due to lack of recognition, the group is considered very large. They have a number of universal characteristics that suit almost all breeds:
- They are able to work together and even in a pack, however, after special training.
- They conflict with cats and rodents, as well as small dogs.
- There is no aggression at all.
- Loyal to the owner.
Cops are distinguished by great excitement, they quickly get carried away by the search and, if successful, take a characteristic stance, notifying their owner of the prey. A properly trained dog will never damage a carcass.
If the animal is needed for security or protection, then the pointer is absolutely not suitable for this role. Of course, some representatives can demonstrate this kind of ability, but this is an exception to the rule rather than an inherent pattern.
